They won 2-0 against Mexico and Poland, then beat Australia 2-1 in the round of the last 16, beat the Netherlands on penalties, and defeated Croatia 3-0 in the semifinals.

France also suffered just one defeat during the tournament: When they lost 1-0 to Tunisia on the last day of group play, they were already qualified, having previously won 4-1 against Australia and 2-1 against Denmark. After that France won 3-1 against Poland, 2-1 against England and finally 2-0 against the surprise team from Morocco.

The World Cup final will take place on Sunday, December 18 at 6 pm Qatar time at the Lusail Iconic Stadium in Lusail.

Argentina World Cup 2022 Preview

When Argentina lost 2-1 to Saudi Arabia on the first matchday, hardly anyone would have bet that the Albiceleste would end up in the World Cup final.

But Argentina became stronger and more stable as the tournament progressed. Lionel Scaloni’s team still had to find its feet in some positions, but it now looks very solid.

The Croatians also had to learn this bitter lesson, as the Argentines left the 2018 World Cup finalists no chance in the semifinals. A key role was taken by superstar Lionel Messi, who excelled with a goal and an assist. Two goals were also scored by young star Julián Álvarez, just 22, who replaced Lautaro Martínez and now has four goals in the tournament.

Argentina’s midfield also looked stronger with each game. In Argentina’s 4-4-2, Enzo Fernández and Leandro Paredes play in the center, with Rodrigo de Paul and Alexis Mac Allister filling the full-back positions. One of the secrets of the Argentines’ success is that these four players always consolidate the center, ensuring great compactness.

Overlyzer Live Trends Argentina Croatia
The semi-final between Argentina and Croatia was basically an even affair – but the Argentines presented themselves much more efficient!

Lionel Scaloni will probably stick to his 4-4-2 formation against France. A thoroughly attacking lineup will be important to keep the strong Frenchmen busy. In addition, the forward duo of Messi and Álvarez is perfectly attuned and has been increasingly convincing as the tournament has progressed.

Nevertheless, it is conceivable that Scaloni will change his starting lineup compared to the successful semifinal against Croatia. Marcos Acuña and Gonzalo Montiel return to the squad after their suspensions and are serious options for the full-back positions. Especially the question of who will start at right-back is an important one – the latter will be up against France’s superstar Kylian Mbappé. Since the full-back positions are not necessarily the best-staffed positions in the Argentine squad, they could become a key in this World Cup final.

Another interesting facet is that against both the Netherlands and Croatia, Argentina had less possession than their opponents. Against the Dutch, just a little, but against Croatia, significantly. They were able to let the Croatians have the ball because of their lead and pull back. This could be an approach used against France even when the score is 0-0.

The only absentee for Argentina will be veteran left winger Papu Gómez, but he wouldn’t have had a starting spot anyway.

France World Cup 2022 Preview

France’s performance in the knockout phase of the 2022 World Cup was very solid: probably the most important victory came in the quarterfinals against England. Not only did they knock out one of the favorites for the title, but they also boosted their self-confidence. In comparison, the semifinal against Morocco was a rather easy affair.

The French are basically well-staffed in all positions and there are hardly any weak points. Qualitatively, the starting lineup in particular is superior to that of the Argentines.

However, there is one position where France is practically perfect and that is the “10”. Antoine Griezmann plays in the attacking midfield of the French, who has an enormous range of movement and action and is extremely important for the team.

The defensive midfield is a bit weaker with Rabiot and Tchouameni than in the last World Cup in 2018, when Kanté and Pogba (both injured this year) played in this space. That’s why it’s very important for France to have Griezmann as an extra aid on the central axis – even when it comes to condensing the center.

The French offensive line is fantastically well-staffed anyway: Kylian Mbappé is currently one of the world’s best players, Ousmane Dembélé on the right offensive side is always good for a surprise and Olivier Giroud has also been reliable in the tournament so far.

Overlyzer Live Trends France Morocco
France surrendered the ball to Morocco in the semifinals after an early goal – and lurked on the counterattack!

The encounter against Morocco showed a different side of the French. After an early goal by Theo Hernández, the “Equipe tricolore” pulled back and let the Moroccans take over the game. This gave Morocco good opportunities again and again, but France was able to save energy and shift to counterattacking.

If the French also take the lead in the final against Argentina, we could see the same approach again. Unlike four years ago, when France was very dominant and always went for the second goal quickly, this time they could opt for pragmatism.

With players like Mbappé or Dembélé, France can transition perfectly and is probably more dangerous that way than if they permanently control the game and push the opponent backwards – as the Spaniards did in this tournament, for example.

The expected goals also showed this in the game against Morocco. France came in at 2.43 in this statistic and even ran just under value with the 2-0. Only in the first two games against Australia and Denmark did they get higher xG values than in the semifinal.

In the semifinals, defensive midfielder Adrien Rabiot was out with a cold and was replaced by Youssouf Fofana. However, the more experienced Rabiot should be fit for the final and return to the team.

+ France also managed to knock out Argentina in 2018

The last duel

The clash between Argentina and France has taken place twelve times in soccer history and three times in World Cups. In the group stages of the 1930 and 1978 tournaments, these two teams met, and in 2018, in the most recent encounter to date, they played a heated match in the World Cup round of the last 16.

In Kazan, France prevailed 4-3 in what was arguably the best match of the 2018 World Cup. Griezmann scored from the penalty spot for France, followed by the best goal of the tournament from Benjamin Pavard, before Kylian Mbappé scored a brace. For the Argentines, Ángel Di María, Gabriel Mercado and Sergio Agüero scored.

Overall, Argentina have the edge over France, with 50% of all games played so far being won by the Argentines. Three games ended in draws, three times the French won. Of the three previous matches at World Cups, Argentina won two and lost only in 2018.

Argentina – France Over Under Prediction

In a World Cup final, there is naturally a lot of pressure on the protagonists on both sides. No one wants to make a mistake; security and stability are the top priorities.

In this case, however, some exciting stories could be written: For example, the possible highlight of the career of the great Lionel Messi, who certainly wants to hijack this final match. Or the second World Cup title for some Frenchmen, including Kylian Mbappé, who could win his second trophy at the tender age of 23.

Both teams have the attack in their DNA and in some other knockout games the teams proved to be “over” teams as well. This is also due to the fact that the French allowed quite a lot of opportunities from their opponents and always had high xG values against them. The Argentines, on the other hand, built up high xG values themselves.

Since especially in a World Cup final every action leads to a reaction, this could turn out to be quite a lively endgame. We therefore bet on an Argentina France over 2.5, i.e. at least three goals in the match.

Argentina – France Prediction

All bookmakers see the final of the 2022 World Cup as an extremely even affair. The two teams have had a relatively similar tournament, and each has the top scorer in the tournament so far. On one side, there is a seasoned star in Lionel Messi, and on the other, shooting-star Kylian Mbappé.

However, the French have the more balanced team, and although they may not have played to the maximum of their potential, they have more quality than the Argentines. The latter, in turn, are the stronger fighters, but do not feature a typical World Cup-winning squad and will need an exceptional performance against the French to bring home the trophy for the third time.

However, we bet on France being the more stable of the two teams to prevail. Our betting recommendation is therefore a victory for the French after 90 minutes, as they already managed to do against Croatia in 2018.

Argentina – France Correct Score Bet

Both teams are defined by their attacking players. In defense, both sides have shown weaknesses time and again throughout the tournament. It is striking, for example, that Argentina have allowed only 2.29 Expected Goals by their opponents in their six games so far, but have conceded five goals. Against Argentina in particular, other teams seem to be very efficient.

In addition, the Argentines have already been awarded four penalties in the current tournament, of which Lionel Messi converted three. This has to do with the dribbling ability of the “Gauchos” in the attack and another penalty in the final would not be unlikely.

In the case of the French, practically all players can score a goal and “Les Bleus” should also have advantages in set-pieces due to their physicality. The bottom line is that everything is set for a high-scoring and exciting final, in which our Argentina France result tip is a 2-1 win for France.

Golden Boot odds

Another interesting bet, which will be decided only in the World Cup final, is who will win the Golden Boot. Four players realistically have the chance to win this award for themselves.

Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappé, the two big stars of this final, currently lead the scoreboard with five goals each. Behind them lurk Julián Álvarez and Olivier Giroud, two teammates of the stars with four goals each.

Our bookmaker test winner Bet365 sees Lionel Messi at a slight advantage due to his rising form and offers odds of @1.909 for the little Argentine to score. For Kylian Mbappé, you currently get odds of @2.05. Álvaraz and Giroud have only underdog chances with odds of @11.00.

In fact, we are betting on Lionel Messi because, unlike Mbappé, he can also be dangerous from free kicks and the Argentines have also been awarded numerous penalties. Just one more penalty could decide not only the World Cup final, but also the battle for top scorer of the tournament,

Argentina – France Goalscorer Odds

The two favorites for the title of World Cup top scorer are also almost equal favorites to score in the World Cup final. Here, too, Lionel Messi has a bit of a lead according to the odds. If the Argentine superstar scores at any point, odds of @2.62 await, and if he scores the first goal of the match, you can even win back 4.75 times your stake.

Next is French star Kylian Mbappé, who is offered odds of @2.75 for a goal at any time. For the first goal in the match, Mbappé is offered at @5.00. Immediately following are the two underdogs for the scoring title – Julián Álvarez and Olivier Giroud.

PLAYERGOAL (ANY TIME)FIRST GOAL

Alejandro Gómez (ARG)5.0010.00
Antoine Griezmann (FRA)5.0010.00
Ousmane Dembélé (FRA)5.0010.00

The odds for Olivier Giroud are particularly interesting here. He is the target player for the French and has the same odds as Lautaro Martínez, who is not even expected to be in the starting lineup. His odds are only slightly lower than those of Paulo Dybala, who has only made one brief appearance in the entire World Cup so far.

Betting on Olivier Giroud to score a goal is therefore a value bet.

Croatia World Cup 2022 Preview

In the semifinals, Argentina revealed the limits of the Croatian team. Croatia played well against the South Americans, but too many individual mistakes were made, allowing Lionel Messi and Co. to show their class.

Nevertheless, it was a more than successful World Cup for the solid Croatians, who now want to say goodbye to their fans in a fitting manner in the match for third place.

Overlyzer Live Trends Argentina Croatia
Especially the second half was quite an open affair between the Croats and Argentina…

Team boss Zlatko Dalic could make some changes in the last game of the World Cup and give some substitutes a chance to play. However, the Croatians have proven in the tournament so far that their bench is well-equipped and can provide a scoring threat.

Marcelo Brozovic suffered an injury in the semifinal against Argentina, and it’s unlikely they’ll take any chances on the strong Inter midfielder. So at least here there will be a change in the team, which is not ideal for Croatia, especially since the strong central midfield is perfectly rehearsed.

Morocco World Cup 2022 Preview

The dream of the World Cup final is over for the Moroccans. France was a size too large and although they had good opportunities, the French were cleverer in the end.

It was a tough semi-final for the Moroccans because France took the lead in the first few minutes of the game and then backed off. Morocco was thus forced to take charge of the game, something they have never had to do in the tournament so far. Morocco delivered a spirited fight, but then had to concede the second goal through Kolo Muani.

Overlyzer Live Trends France Morocco
Morocco never had as much possession as against France at the 2022 World Cup!

For the second time Romain Saiss started with a muscle injury. Coach Walid Regragui brought in his captain even though he was not fit because he is simply too important for the team. But against France it ended and Saiss had to be substituted after only 20 minutes. He will certainly not take part in the match for third place.

Noussair Mazraoui could also be absent for the match, so there could be several changes to the Moroccans’ starting eleven. It’s quite possible that Regragui also wants to give his “second suit” a chance to present itself once again at the World Cup.

In favor of Croatia:

In favor of Morocco:

+ Self-confidence unbroken, also because they left Croatia behind them in Group F
+ Still the strongest defense of the tournament

The last duel

Croatia and Morocco already met during the group stage. The match ended in a goalless 0-0 draw, with Morocco managing no more than 0.25 expected goals and allowing only 0.74 xG from the Croatians.

It was the first match for both teams at this tournament and therefore they were still very cautious. In the match for 3rd place just three weeks later, it is no longer necessary to act cautiously and so a completely different game is to be expected this time.

Overlyzer Live Trends Morocco Croatia
The first match between these two teams at the 2022 World Cup ended with no goals.

Croatia – Morocco Over Under Prediction

Since 1974, there has only been one match for the 3rd place that ended with an “Under 2.5”. That was Belgium’s 2-0 win over England at the 2018 World Cup. Otherwise, every match for 3rd place has been a guarantee for many goals. This has to do with the nature of the game: Often, after a long tournament, teams are out of breath and more mistakes happen. In addition, none of the teams have anything to lose and can compete a little more relaxed.

Therefore, even in the duel of these two rather defensive teams, we bet on an “Over 2.5”, that is, at least three goals scored in the match.

The Moroccans have been impressive in their efforts and by now the physical damage is noticeable. Saiss and Mazraoui could be out against Croatia due to injury and coach Regragui will have to consider rotating extensively.

Croatia is more used to final phases of tournaments than the Moroccans and should be the more solid team towards the end. Morocco will be a little out of steam, and a certain feeling of saturation will set in after what they have achieved so far, so they will finish the tournament in fourth place.

So we expect a win for the Croats and a lot of goals in the match for 3rd place because of the “setting”. We expect Croatia to win 3-1, because Morocco will allow more than in the games up to the semifinals due to the failures in defense.

After finishing second in 2018, it will be a bit more important for the Croats to finish the 2022 World Cup in third place and so we expect a more attack-minded Croatian team that can create a lot more scoring chances than in the first encounter in the group stage.

France vs. Morocco Prediction, Betting Tips & Odds | Semifinals

In the second semi-final of the 2022 World Cup, France will face the sensational team from Morocco. The French are looking to reach the World Cup final for the second time in a row and have only one underdog left to play.

We provide you with a detailed preview of the match, as well as the best odds and predictions, and offer you our France – Morocco betting picks.

The road to the semifinals

France went through the tournament in a largely convincing manner: After the 4-1 against Australia and the 2-1 over Denmark, they were already qualified for the round of 16. After that, however, there was a 1-0 defeat against Tunisia – and thus the second North African team in the tournament. In the round of 16, they defeated Poland 3-1, but France were not entirely convincing, and in the quarter-finals they managed a difficult 2-1 victory over England.

Morocco are certainly the biggest surprise of the tournament, finishing first in Group F after a 0-0 draw with Croatia and wins over Belgium (2-0) and Canada (2-1). In the round of 16, they beat Spain on penalties after a 0-0 draw after extra time. In the quarter-finals, they beat Portugal 1-0.

The match will take place on Wednesday 14th of December at 10pm Qatar time at al-Bayt Stadium in al-Khor.

France World Cup 2022 Preview

France must be warned ahead of their semi-final clash with Morocco – in two respects! On the one hand, the Moroccans put in a remarkable performance and have already knocked out three World Cup favorites – Belgium, Spain and Portugal. On the other hand, their own game against England demonstrated how quickly things can unfold in football: Giroud provided the 2-1 for the French and Harry Kane missed a penalty shortly afterwards, putting France up after 90 minutes.

In the quarter-final duel with England, it was again quite quickly obvious why the French are so strong at the moment and are now the sole favorites for the title. The density of the midfield, thanks to the hard-working Antoine Griezmann who keeps dropping back, is an absolute key to success. Griezmann also set up both goals against England and is now the sole record holder in the French national team in terms of assists.

But the fact that France have a real target player in Olivier Giroud is also part of Didier Deschamps’ recipe for success. The experienced Giroud is perhaps even more of a presence than world footballer Karim Benzema would have been. The way the 36-year-old uses his body is unique in this tournament so far, and so the Milan striker is already holding on to four tournament goals.

England France Overlyzer Live Trends
A goal by Olivier Giroud late in France’s pressure period decided the quarter-final against England!

Before the match against Morocco, there is even another facet that the French must keep in mind: Their only defeat in the tournament came against Tunisia – another team from North Africa. However, Deschamps did not field his best line-up in that match.

The only player France will have to do without against Morocco is Lucas Hernández, who tore his cruciate ligament in the first match against Australia. There are no suspended players and since the yellow cards will be cancelled after the quarter-finals, it is now clear that France will be completely free of suspensions at the 2022 World Cup.

Morocco World Cup 2022 Preview

The Moroccans’ performances in the World Cup so far have indeed been truly exceptional. They drew 0-0 with runners-up Croatia, which is quite impressive considering that the Croats are also still represented in the tournament. Against Belgium, they achieved a 2-0 victory thanks to a clever, disciplined style of play, which also sent the co-favourites for the World Cup title home early.

After that, however, things got really spectacular: against Spain, they hardly allowed a goal-scoring chance over 120 minutes and won the penalty shoot-out. In the quarter-final against Portugal, the game was even decided after 90 minutes: Youssef En-Nesyri’s goal put Morocco into the semi-finals of a World Cup for the first time.

The euphoria surrounding this team is unbelievably high and the many fans on site also made the difference in crucial situations. One gets the impression that the team of charismatic coach Walid Regragui has not had enough yet. Morocco is hungry for more and now wants to tackle France, probably the most difficult hurdle!

Overlyzer Live Trends Morocco Portugal
Despite having a large dominance of the field, Portugal could only create a few clear-cut scoring chances against Morocco and only shot three times on Bono’s goal.

This time, however, it will be much more difficult for the Moroccans than in the previous games. Meanwhile, the team’s performances can no longer be dismissed as a flash in the pan and France will be highly focused going into this match. Regragui is a great coach, but the options against France are limited and – as against Spain – will be restricted primarily to defending.

Although it is safe to assume that Morocco will once again “chase” the ball and their opponents and will not want to give the French any space to breathe in the last third of the pitch, the personnel situation is a cause of concern for the North African team boss.

The captain’s state of health in particular could be a key factor in this match. Romain Saiss, Besiktas Istanbul’s strongest central defender and an absolute leader in the Moroccan team, had to be substituted again against Portugal due to problems in his hamstring. This time he was even taken away on a stretcher. His absence in the semi-final would be a serious loss for Morocco, but since he already got injured against Spain and gritted his teeth, an injury is indeed very likely.

Saiss could be difficult to replace in central defence. While Morocco arguably has the best goalkeeper of the World Cup so far in Bono, the defensive organisation is very much linked to Saiss. On the other hand, Hakim Ziyech, who was also substituted against Portugal, is expected to be fit for the match against France. The only definite absentee will be backup striker Walid Cheddira, who was sent off against Portugal when he got two yellow cards.

The duel everyone will be watching closely in this match is that of the two PSG players Achraf Hakimi and Kylian Mbappé. Here, arguably the best right-back in the world meets the best left-winger in the world and it could be a nail-biting, and possibly decisive, clash between the two Parisian teammates.

Impressively, Morocco have only conceded one goal in the current tournament – and that was an ultimately insignificant own goal in the match against Canada.

In favor of France:

+ Significant qualitative and technical advantages

+ The versatile role of Antoine Griezmann has worked flawlessly so far
+ No notable injuries
+ Physical advantages over Morocco
+ With Saiss, there may be one significant injured player for Morocco

In favor of Morocco:

+ Huge hype around the surprise team of the 2022 World Cup
+ Clever tactical approach and high level of discipline
+ Great fighting spirit and defensive strength; only one goal conceded in the entire tournament
+ High efficiency in attack
+ Some sort of “home advantage”, due to the many Moroccan fans on site

The last duel

France and Morocco have played each other five times in football history. Morocco have managed to hold the French to two draws, but have not yet managed to win.

The last meeting between these two countries was in Paris in November 2007. The match ended 2-2, with Sidney Govou and Samir Nasri scoring for France and Tarik Sektioui and Youssef Mokhtari scoring for Morocco.

That match did not feature any players who could be back on the pitch in 2022. For France, a very young Karim Benzema was playing, but he will not be playing in the 2022 World Cup due to injury.

France and Morocco last met 15 years ago and the points were shared

Potential opponents for the World Cup Final

The winner of the duel between France and Morocco will meet the winner of the semifinal match between Argentina and Croatia in the final.

France – Morocco Over Under Prediction

Morocco have conceded only one goal in the tournament so far. Walid Regragui’s team thus has the safest defense, which thrives less on its individual quality than on its tactical organization.

France, however, have the strongest attacking line-up Morocco will face in the course of this tournament. The French create numerous scoring opportunities and are strong in their decision-making, both individually and as a team.

So far, the game has always gone in Morocco’s favor and they have been able to be patient for the most part. But if France build up great pressure from the start and possibly take the lead in the first half, the Moroccans’ passive game plan will have to change. Regragui’s troops will then have to really attack for the first time in this tournament and whether that will work against the solid French remains to be seen.

We are therefore betting on more spaces for France than one might expect at first glance and are betting on an “over 2.5”, i.e. at least three goals scored in the match.in this semi-final. We are therefore betting that not many goals will be scored here.

France – Morocco Prediction

In the end, France will be an obstacle too big for Morocco to overcome. The personnel problems, especially around the important captain Romain Saiss, do not necessarily suggest that the North Africans will be able to keep a clean sheet against the reigning world champions.

We assume here that France will prevail after 90 minutes, also because they will be able to exert sufficient pressure on Morocco. If this happens and the French even score a goal early on, Morocco will have to play more courageously forward and open up, which would throw Walid Regragui’s compact tactics into jeopardy.

Overlyzer Match Betting Prediction France vs. Morocco

France – Morocco Correct Score Bet

In the second semi-final match of the 2022 World Cup, we expect France to create more clear-cut scoring opportunities than the Spanish and Portuguese managed against Morocco. Therefore, a French goal should only be a matter of time and if it comes, Morocco will have to change their tactical approach and be bolder going forward.

If France actually get into a situation where they can counter-attack against Morocco, it could also end badly for the Moroccans. So far, the team has always thrived on consistently closing down the defence and the centre. But if the individually superior French get more space, you can expect a couple of goals.

Our France Morocco result tip is a resounding 3-0 for the 2018 World Cup champions, who will advance to their second consecutive World Cup final.

Argentina vs. Croatia Prediction, Betting Tips & Odds | Semifinals

Argentina Flag

In the first semi-final of the 2022 World Cup, Argentina and superstar Lionel Messi will face the (once again) sensational team from Croatia. The Croatians eliminated Brazil by surprise in the quarter-finals, while Argentina beat the Netherlands.

We provide you with a detailed preview of the match, as well as the best odds and predictions, and offer you our Argentina – Croatia betting picks.

The road to the semifinals

Argentina started the tournament with a shock, losing 2-1 to Saudi Arabia. After that, however, the South Americans did not show any more weakness: they won 2-0 against Mexico and Poland, and in the round of 16 they defeated Australia 2-1. Against the Netherlands, the Argentinians put up a tough fight that lasted until the penalty shootout, where they also came out on top.

Croatia can be described as a phenomenon at the current World Cup. In the tournament so far, the Croats have only won one match after 90 minutes 4-1 against Canada. They drew 0-0 against Morocco and Belgium, and after a 1-1 draw with Japan in the round of 16, they had to go through a penalty shoot-out. This was also the case in the quarter-final against Brazil, where goalkeeper Dominik Livakovic was again the hero when it came to penalties.

The match will take place at the Lusail Iconic Stadium in Lusail on Tuesday 13 December at 10pm Qatar time (8pm CET).

Argentina World Cup 2022 Preview

Argentina was able to stabilise itself in the course of the tournament and, as the World Cup progressed, impressed above all with its fighting spirit. The “Gauchos” still have plenty of room for improvement, but the quarter-final against the Netherlands in particular showed that Lionel Scaloni’s team can put up a fight.

A goal by Nahuel Molina and a converted penalty by Lionel Messi put Argentina on the winning track until the 73rd minute. But the Netherlands fought back and equalized with a brace from Wout Weghorst, sending the game into extra time.

The momentum of the match was supposed to be on the side of the Netherlands and Louis van Gaal’s team was convincing in the first half of extra time. But then Argentina showed that they are equipped with great mentality. In the second half of extra time, the Netherlands was very lucky not to lose the game. Nevertheless, the match ended 2-2 and in the penalty shootout Argentina kept their nerves.

Overlyzer Live Trends Netherlands Argentina
Argentina could have decided the match against the Netherlands in extra time!

But it was a costly victory for the Argentines. All in all, there were 16 yellow cards and one yellow-red card in the match. With the two full-backs Marcos Acuña and Gonzalo Montiel, two Argentines are suspended for the semi-final against Croatia.

But there is also good news for coach Lionel Scaloni: veteran star Ángel di María was substituted in the win over the Netherlands and is thus available again for the semi-final. In addition, Inter Milan striker Lautaro Martínez scored the decisive penalty, which may have given him some much-needed self-confidence. So far, the Inter star has had a mixed World Cup.

Scaloni could change the formation again for the match against Croatia. Against the Dutch, he played a 3-5-2 system to mirror the formation of the opponent. Against Croatia, it is likely that the Argentines will again play in a 4-3-3, also because the suspensions of Acuña and Montiel mean that two important alternatives for the wing-back positions are missing.

Croatia World Cup 2022 Preview

Croatia were already severely challenged at the group stage. Against Belgium and also against the surprise team from Morocco, they both drew 0-0. This was also the reason why Belgium had to go home early.

While they failed to put in a commanding performance against Japan in the round of 16, Zlatko Dalic’s team managed to surprise against Brazil. Against Japan, both teams put the game to sleep for a long time, but against Brazil, Croatia surprised by playing along with the World Cup favourites. They didn’t just want to hide, but tried to put pressure on the Selecao.

As expected, the Croatian central midfield played an enormously important role. Luka Modric is the architect of the Croatian team anyway, but the performances of Mateo Kovacic and Marcelo Brozovic were also top notch.

Overlyzer Live Trens Croatia Brazil
Brazil were largely the better team, but towards the end of extra time Croatia had the upper hand and still scored the equalizer.

At first glance, it doesn’t look as if Croatia’s squad is strong enough, but time and again the runners-up prove observers wrong. Dinamo Zagreb’s Bruno Petkovic, for example, scored the equalizer in the last breaths of extra time to send Croatia into the semi-finals.

In the penalty shoot-out, the Brazilians’ dream of a sixth World Cup title was finally over. Dominik Livakovic saved Rodrygo’s first penalty and centre-back Marquinhos missed at the end to send Croatia through to the semi-finals.

Qualitatively, of course, they were clearly inferior to the Brazilians, but the Croatians are simply the epitome of a tournament team. The experienced team plays extremely hard and knows how to reduce the pace of the game and then pick it up again. A quality that will also cause problems for the Argentinians…

In favor of Argentina:

+ The team was able to improve more and more as the tournament went on.
+ High level of mentality and fighting spirit
+ Lionel Messi is in good form and has already scored four goals in the tournament.
+ The central midfield is slowly settling in and is much more stable than at the beginning of the tournament.
+ Goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez gained self-confidence in the win against the Netherlands
+ …as did Lautaro Martínez, who converted the decisive penalty kick

In favor of Croatia:

+ The epitome of a tournament team
+ Enormously stable central midfield
+ Brimming with self-confidence after the win against Brazil+ Incredibly solid central defence with Gvardiol and Lovren
+ Strong squad density, even if the big names are missing from the bench
+ Two suspended full-backs for Argentina

The last duel

Croatia and Argentina have met five times since 1994 – twice at World Cups and both times in the group stage.

In 1998, Argentina won against the strong Croats, but in 2018, the tide turned and this year’s semi-final duel with the Argentines could be déjá vu for Croatia. On the way to the final in Moscow, the Croats won smoothly 3-0. The goals were scored by Ante Rebic, Luka Modric and Ivan Rakitic.

For the Argentines, only three players – Otamendi, Tagliafico and Messi – were in the starting eleven, and they are likely to start this time as well. For the Croats, there are four with Lovren, Brozovic, Modric and Perisic. This means that we will see different teams in the semi-finals of the 2022 World Cup than in the group stage in 2018.

After five games, by the way, the international match record of the two teams is absolutely even: Both teams won two matches and one match ended in a draw. In terms of goal difference, the Croats are just ahead with 7-5.

Potential opponents for the final

The winner of the clash between Argentina and Croatia will face the winner of the semi-final between France and Morocco in the final.

Argentina – Croatia Over Under Prediction

Croatia in particular have shown in the course of the tournament so far that they are a very pragmatic “under” team. Only against Canada there was an “over 2.5”, which was also due to the fact that Canada acted too naively and ran into an open knife.

Against Argentina, Croatia will again rely on defensive stability and play from a secure defense. Once again, the underdog’s central midfield will be a key factor in the game.

Argentina showed some improvement offensively, but the “Albiceleste” still lacked creativity. This team is not characterized by great playing strength or technical finesse, and so it is likely that a battle will develop here, which the Croats will gladly accept in this semi-final. We are therefore betting that not many goals will be scored here.

Overlyzer Tip

Argentina – Croatia UNDER 2,5 goals ➜ best odds 1.75 @ Bet365

Overlyzer Over/Under Betting Pick Argentina vs. Croatia

Argentina – Croatia Prediction

Croatia already had to go to extra time three times in the knockout phase on their way to the 2018 World Cup final. Twice they won on penalties, once after 120 minutes. This could happen again this time. Against Japan and Brazil, the Croats had to go all the way to the penalty shootout.

The duel between Argentina and Croatia also looks like it will go to extra time. Whoever can beat the Brazilians should also be able to do so against the Argentines, whose quality is weaker. Croatia can let the clock work for them and know that they have nerves of steel.

Many observers believe that the Croatians could advance again, but that the Argentinians are more likely to reach the final. This gives the two-time world champions from South America more pressure and more to prove. Croatia have the quality to save themselves in the “overtime” once again and thus we bet on a draw.

Argentina are one of the stronger teams in the World Cup offensively, but this is not necessarily due to their great playing quality, but rather to good decisions in decisive moments. The team around superstar Lionel Messi will also get their opportunities against Croatia.

Not only in the quarter-final against the Netherlands, but also before that, it was evident that Argentina also have defensive weaknesses and repeatedly allow their opponents to create chances. The highlight of the quarterfinals of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar will be the clash between England and France. One of the two big favorites for the title will have to go home after this match.

We provide you with a detailed preview of the match, as well as the best odds and predictions, and offer you our England – France betting tips.

The road to the quarterfinals

England only showed weaknesses in the game against the USA and was promptly criticized after the 0-0 draw in the second game of the group stage. Before that, there was a smooth 6-2 victory against Iran and then an unchallenged 3-0 win over Wales.

In the round of 16, England comfortably defeated Senegal 3-0.  The English are therefore still considered one of the top favorites for the World Cup title.

The French fared similarly on their way to the quarterfinals. At the group stage, they beat Australia 4-1 and Denmark 2-1 to book their place in the round of 16. The 1-0 loss to Tunisia was the only real setback in the tournament so far. In the round of 16, however, France were again largely in command and were the better team when they beat Poland 3-1.

The match will take place on Saturday, December 10 at 10 pm Qatar time at al-Bayt Stadium in al-Khor.

England had to face Senegal, who qualified for the round of the last 16 as second in Group A, but never really convinced. England started to work very hard against the ball right from the start and gave the Senegalese practically no chance in the build-up game.

Just when Senegal looked like they could take control of the game, England struck for the first time and took the lead through Jordan Henderson. At a perfect moment – just before the final whistle – Harry Kane also scored the 2-0, which brought him level with the leading goalscorer Wayne Rooney in the all-time scoring list of the English national team. With Bukayo Saka’s 3-0 after about an hour,

Against Senegal, two young players in particular made a strong impression: Jude Bellingham was arguably the best player on the pitch and delivered an extremely thoughtful and combative performance. His team-mate Phil Foden also showed his potential and made England even more unpredictable in attack.

It was only when England made a change after 3-0, bringing on Jack Grealish and Marcus Rashford and then Mason Mount, Eric Dier and Kalvin Phillips, that the Three Lions’ play became a little more lazy. In general, it seems that the English reserve players are not as sharp as they could be. However, the clear lead also meant that the English lacked the necessary pressure.

Everything was done and England were in the quarterfinals.

Overlyzer Live Trends England Senegal
England struck three times against Senegal in a very short space of time and then managed their comfortable lead with ease

Of course, Gareth Southgate’s team will be put to the test against France. England have worked well in a 4-3-3 recently, but it’s also conceivable that the English team boss will again choose a more defensive approach against France in order to put a stop to the strong French attack. Players like Harry Maguire could struggle with the pace of Kylian Mbappé, which is why they could use all the support they can get in defense.

England, of course, can counter with a lot of quality themselves: The central midfield with Bellingham, Henderson and Rice can certainly keep up with that of the French. The offense with wingers Foden and Saka, as well as center forward Kane, can also hurt France. So the 1966 world champions definitely don’t need to hide.

The English newspapers were of course creative again before the quarterfinal against France!

However, Gareth Southgate has to deal with some absentees: Ben White and Raheem Sterling left the team camp and it is still unclear whether they will return. In addition, the use of John Stones and Callum Wilson is questionable. A fitness check before the game will determine whether they are fit enough for the match against France.

France World Cup 2022 Preview

With the exception of the slip-up in the last group game against Tunisia, France have played a convincing World Cup so far and have lived up to their reputation as the new title co-favorites. Kylian Mbappé, in particular, has been inspiring once again and has already scored five goals, making him the current top scorer at the 2022 World Cup.

But Mbappé’s colleagues in the offense are also playing a great tournament so far. Olivier Giroud has already scored three goals in the tournament and Ousmane Dembélé is always good for surprising moments.

The most important offensive player next to Mbappé, however, is the experienced Antoine Griezmann, who traditionally plays strongly in tournaments and puts himself one hundred percent at the service of the team. The high level of defensive work Griezmann does also makes the French midfield center and defense stronger.

And that’s necessary, because it’s in central midfield that the French are vulnerable. Aurélien Tchouameni and Adrian Rabiot have plenty of quality, but the English are still somewhat better positioned in this position.

Overlyzer Live Trends France Poland
France had several pressure situations in the match against Poland and in the end managed to win the match quite easily!

France’s team manager Didier Deschamps already had to deal with numerous absences before the tournament. During the tournament, Lucas Hernández suffered a cruciate ligament rupture in his first game. After that, however, the French were spared and can now draw from a full roster with the remaining squad. This means that Jules Koundé and Theo Hernández are likely to start again on the wings and Raphael Varane and Dayot Upamecano on the inside.

Not least because of numerous absences before the tournament, the defense is still a bit the weak point of the French. They conceded a goal in each of their four World Cup games. Poland even had an expected goals value of 2.23 in the round of 16, which is clearly too high for a team like France. So if the English offense keeps the Equipe tricolore busy, they will get their chances!

In favor of England:

+ England recently conceded no goals three times in a row
+ France’s opponents at the 2022 World Cup have always scored
+ The attacking line is in good shape and Harry Kane has also scored for the first time recently
+ The central midfield around young star Jude Bellingham is playing convincingly
+ Several tactical options for team boss Gareth Southgate – including a three-man backline
+ England are likely to be the “calmer”, more pragmatic side

In favor of France:

+ Kylian Mbappé has been the defining player of this World Cup so far
+ In Olivier Giroud, they have a goal-scoring machine at their disposal
+ Antoine Griezmann’s running effort is central to France’s success
+ Several injured and questionable on England’s side
+ Raphael Varane recently regained his old strength

The last duel

In the entire history of soccer, England and France have met 31 times. England have the better overall record with 17 wins, five draws and nine defeats. The last time these two teams met in a World Cup was in 1982.

The last meeting between these two teams was a friendly in Paris in June 2017, when France won 3-2 in front of 80,000 spectators, with Samuel Umtiti, Djibril Sidibé and Ousmane Dembélé scoring the goals for Les Bleus. For England, captain Harry Kane scored twice. Raphael Varane, who should also be fielded this time, was sent off with a red card.

For England, Harry Kane and John Stones were the only two players in the starting lineup who could also start this time. Even on the bench there were only a few players who will also be there in 2022, which illustrates the great transformation in the English team well.

At the 1978 World Cup final, the atmosphere in Buenos Aires was magnificent!

Potential opponents for the semifinals

The winner of the duel between England and France will meet the winner of the quarterfinal match between Morocco and Portugal in the semifinals.

England – France Over Under Prediction

France have conceded a goal in each of their four World Cup games. England, on the other hand, has gone three matches in a row without conceding a goal, although they were not put to as much of a test by the USA, Wales and Senegal as they will be against France.

Everything is set for a spectacular quarterfinal. Both teams tend to have their best players in attack, and France have possibly the best attacker in the world in its left winger Kylian Mbappé.

Against these strong offensive lines a wait-and-see style of play will be difficult for both teams, considering that the defensive options for both teams drop significantly compared to the offensive ones.

That’s why we are betting here on a game in which many goals will be scored. Our over under tip for England vs France is an “Over 2.5”, meaning at least three goals scored in the match.

England – France Prediction

England focuses more on control and pragmatism. They also have the proper central midfield for that, which is very confident in passing and makes few mistakes.

France, however, is always looking to be aggressive and direct with the ball, which is why they keep running into counterattacks. France’s offensive players can make the difference here, though: Mbappé’s quality is of course out of the question, but Griezmann, Dembélé and Giroud are also players that can score at any time against the English backline.

We’re therefore betting here on a victory for France after 90 minutes and expect a decidedly fast-paced, possibly tough match.

Due to the already richly described, strong attacking lines on both sides, there will be no shortage of chances in this game. The quality of both teams also suggests that both sides will be able to cheer about goals.

Our England France result tip is a 2-1 win for France and thus the direct advancement of France after 90 minutes. We also expect the sixth goal of the tournament from Kylian Mbappé, who is playing in top form and will probably have the upper hand in one scene or another against the sometimes stiff-legged English defense around Harry Maguire.

Morocco vs. Portugal Prediction, Betting Tips & Odds | Quarterfinals

Portugal Flag

Morocco are clearly the biggest surprise at the 2022 World Cup. The team has now reached the quarterfinals and is the first North African side to make it this far in a World Cup. Now the strong Portuguese await!

We provide you with a detailed preview of the match, as well as the best odds and predictions, and offer you our Morocco – Portugal tips.

The road to the quarterfinals

Morocco sensationally finished first in the group stage ahead of Croatia, Belgium and Canada. Only Croatia were held to a goalless draw, Belgium were beaten 2-0, and the Canadians 2-1. The Moroccans caused the biggest sensation in the round of 16, however, when they defeated Spain on penalties. The score was 0-0 after 120 minutes, and the Spaniards were unable to convert a single penalty against Morocco’s keeper Bono.

Portugal advanced to the quarterfinals with a real show of strength: Against Switzerland, they had a spectacular 6-1 victory in which Benfica attacker Goncalo Ramos scored three goals. In the group stage, Portugal had won 3-2 against Ghana and 2-0 against Uruguay, but then lost 2-1 to South Korea with a reserve team.

The match will take place on Saturday, December 10 at 6 pm Qatar time at al-Thumama Stadium in Doha.

Morocco World Cup 2022 Preview

Morocco did not reach the quarter-finals by a chain of fortunate circumstances, but were completely convincing in the course of the tournament. Already in the group stage, coach Walid Regragui’s team showed that they can implement their tight, tactical concept well. As a result, the Moroccans have only conceded one goal in the course of the World Cup so far.

Against Spain, Morocco delivered a tactical masterpiece. Despite having about three quarters of possession, the Spanish were only able to generate 1.01 Expected Goals. Morocco closed off the crucial areas to such an extent that the Spanish hardly had any clear scoring opportunities. On the contrary, Morocco actually had the better scoring chances in some phases of the game and could well have taken the lead even in regular playing time.

Having seen over the course of the 90 minutes that they could crack the possession-oriented Spaniards in this way, they pulled way back in extra time and practically concentrated only on defensive work. This inactivity on the offensive is also clearly visible in the following graphs on the game.

Overlyzer Live Trends Morocco Spain
Spain looked superior on the pitch against Morocco, but only shot once on the opponent’s goal!

In the end, a penalty shootout had to decide whether the team would advance or be eliminated. Here, the Moroccans kept a cool head and goalkeeper Bono saved two of Spain’s three penalties. Pablo Sarabia also hit the post and Morocco advanced to the quarter-finals with an impressive 3-0 win on penalties.

There, however, the strong Portuguese team now awaits  against whom it will be more difficult to defend. Compared with Spain, Portugal is much more flexible on the attack and offers more dynamic and explosive play than the Spaniards.

Morocco will of course again focus primarily on defensive duties, but will also try to convert one of the dangerous counterattacks into a goal against Portugal.

However, Morocco may have personnel problems: Romain Saiss, who has been a very confident defender so far, had to deal with problems in his thigh against Spain in extra time. He continued to play and was not substituted, but there will be a thorough medical check before the match against Portugal to see if he is ready for the game. Nayef Aguerd, meanwhile, is likely to be out for the time being.

Incidentally, three of Morocco’s key players – Saiss, Sabiri and Amrabat – are at risk of yellow cards in the quarterfinals and would be out in a possible semifinal if they receive another yellow card.

Portugal World Cup 2022 Preview

The Portuguese national team showed how quickly things can go in a completely different direction at a World Cup when it defeated Switzerland 6-1 in the round of the last 16. It was only in the final game that Portugal lost 2-1 to South Korea and earned criticism for it. However, the reaction of the European “Selecao” was impressive.

Cristiano Ronaldo was benched by his coach Fernando Santos – a situation of great rarity in the Portuguese team. Instead, Goncalo Ramos, a 21-year-old from Benfica Lisbon, stepped up and promptly introduced himself with three goals.

But other players were also convincing and even two defenders, Pepe and Raphael Guerreiro, scored. Substitute Rafael Leao provided the final touch with a goal worth seeing, completing a true celebration for Portugal.

Overlyzer Live Trends Portugal Switzerland
Portugal’s 6-1 win against Switzerland was arguably one of the best performances by any team at the 2022 World Cup!

However, if you look at the expected goals, you can see that the victory was too high: 2.28 : 1.22 was the final score, which means that six goals were clearly too many. In the end, Switzerland failed not so much because of themselves, but more because of the great efficiency of the Portuguese.

One difference to the upcoming match against Morocco will be that the Swiss tried to act offensively and “play along” with the Portuguese. This will be different against Morocco, as the North Africans will be very defensive and will mostly stand deep and wait for counterattacks.

For Portugal, Nuno Mendes and Danilo Pereira will continue to be absent. The two PSG players will not be able to take part in any more World Cup matches.

No less than five Portugal players would be suspended in the event of a yellow card in the semifinals: Bruno Fernandes, Ruben Neves, Joao Felix, Ruben Dias, as well as the injured Pereira are at risk. It is also clear after the great game against Switzerland that the powerful Goncalo Ramos will also start against Morocco. For Cristiano Ronaldo, this means that once again there will probably only be a place on the bench.

+ Pepe has recently proven to be an exceptionally strong defensive organizer
+ Bruno Fernandes is in top form and Joao Felix is also getting stronger and stronger
+ Morocco could be without Romain Saiss

The last duel

Morocco and Portugal have only met twice in soccer history – both times in a World Cup.

In 1986 in Mexico, Morocco sensationally beat the Portuguese 3-1 in the preliminary round, but then lost to Germany in the round of 16.

The last time they met was at the 2018 World Cup in Russia. At that time, the final score was 1-0 for Portugal, who won the group together with Spain. Morocco was eliminated with only one point. Cristiano Ronaldo scored the decisive goal after just four minutes. Portugal’s starting eleven was about half filled with players who could play from the beginning again this time. In contrast, the Moroccan team has changed massively over the last four

Potential opponents for the semifinals

The winner of the duel between Morocco and Portugal will meet the winner of the quarterfinal match between France and England in the semifinals.

Morocco – Portugal Over Under Prediction

Three out of four matches involving Morocco ended with an “Under 2.5”, while Portugal have so far been more of a spectacle. For the Portuguese, three out of four games ended with an “Over 2.5”.

Morocco, however, will clearly focus on defense against the favored Portuguese in the quarterfinals. Portugal’s game against Switzerland was an example of what can happen when you try to keep the match open with the Portuguese. So the Portuguese won’t get as many spaces as they did against Switzerland.

We therefore assume that only a few goals will be scored in this quarter-final duel and opt for an Over Under tip of “Under 2.5”.

The attacking efforts of the Portuguese will be very different from those of the Spanish. Spain were very much in control and in possession against Morocco and thus lacked the required straightforwardness. Portugal, however, is more dynamic and focused. Fernando Santos’ team will therefore create more clear-cut chances against the Moroccans.

Morocco will certainly find one or two good counterattacking chances, but the Portuguese defense has been largely stable lately. We bet here on a victory for Portugal after 90 minutes.

Croatia World Cup Quarterfinals Preview

Croatia is a team that does very well in tournaments – Zlatko Dalic’s squad proved that quite impressively recently. Of the last eleven World Cup matches, Croatia lost only one. However, that was the 2018 World Cup final against France.

They qualified for the quarterfinals of the 2022 World Cup in a minimalistic manner, however. Out of four games, no less than three ended in a draw – only Canada has been defeated after regular time so far. It was also the only game in which Croatia performed in a very balanced manner and was consistently convincing.

In the round of 16 against Japan, Croatia had to go all the way to the penalty shootout, where goalkeeper Livakovic was the hero with three penalties saved. Here, the Croats proved once again that they have nerves of steel and are absolutely up to the pressure of a World Cup.

Overlyzer Live Trends Japan Croatia
The match between Japan and Croatia was not exciting to watch

However, Croatia did not perform particularly well against Japan, finding few solutions on the offensive against deep-lying Japanese. This could already be observed against Morocco. Croatia had an easier time in the World Cup so far when they didn’t have to control the game. The central midfield of the Croats is very well staffed with Modric, Brozovic and Kovacic, but there is a lack of players up front.

Against Brazil, however, Croatia will tend to take the more defensive role anyway. The Croats will leave the ball and the game to the South Americans, withdraw and try to counterattack. A lot of work will also be put into Croatia’s defense, which has already proven that it is in excellent shape. The combination of the experienced Dejan Lovren and young star Josko Gvardiol is particularly strong in central defense. This is one of the reasons why the Croatians have conceded only two goals so far and they will certainly not make it easy for the Brazilians.

Borna Sosa should return to the team after an illness, but Josip Stanisic, an attacking player, is questionable.

Brazil World Cup Quarterfinals Preview

Brazil showed against South Korea why they the bookmakers consider them the World Cup favorites. Brazil already led 4-0 at halftime thanks to goals from Vinicius junior, Neymar, Richarlison and Lucas Paquetá. After just one hour, team boss Tite was able to start sparing important players for the quarterfinals. In the end, the score was 4-1 for Brazil.

Overlyzer Live Trends Brazil South Korea
Brazil’s 4-1 win over South Korea was very impressive

Brazil were not only extremely solid and very dynamic in attack, they also played the kind of game that fans expect from the record world champions. Although the South Koreans also created chances again and again, or at least got into the Brazilians’ half, the Brazilian defense also played well and won a lot of balls to immediately transition and attack again.

In the second half, they largely left the ball to the South Koreans, which is why they ended up with just under 53% possession. Nevertheless, the Asians were rarely compelling and ended up with 0.45 expected goals.

This is a stat that can probably be expected for the Croats as well. The runners-up in the World Cup will have to stand firm at the back against this compact Brazilian team and be incredibly efficient up front if they want to prevail. Brazil is currently not treated as the absolute top favorite for the World Cup title for nothing!

There will also be absences on the Brazilian side: For Alex Telles and Gabriel Jesus, the World Cup is already over due to their injuries. The use of Alex Sandro is also questionable.

Team comparison

In favor of Croatia:

+ Very strong central defense with Lovren and Gvardiol
+ Goalkeeper Livakovic goes into the game with a lot of confidence
+ Strong central midfield
+ Croatia can act in a wait-and-see manner
+ They keep a cool head when it comes to knockout games

In favor of Brazil:

+ Clear individual and technical advantages
+ Neymar is back in the game and has already given the team a push
+ Enormous scoring threat, very dangerous attacking line throughout
+ High level of routine and security in the defensive center
+ Croatia had to fight for 120 minutes against Japan
+ Great mood in the team

The last duel

Croatia have never won against Brazil in four attempts. Only once has there been a draw, and three times the Selecao have prevailed.

The last encounter took place in 2018: Brazil won a friendly international 2-0 in Liverpool, with Neymar and Roberto Firmino scoring the goals.

Brazil have already had the pleasure of playing Croatia twice in World Cups – in the first match on both occasions. In Germany in 2006, Brazil won 1-0, and in 2014, when Brazil hosted the World Cup itself, they won 3-1 in the opening match of the tournament.

Potential opponents for the semifinals

The winner of the duel between Croatia and Brazil will meet the winner of the quarterfinal match between the Netherlands and Argentina in the semifinals.

Croatia – Brazil Over Under Prediction

Croatia will be cautious against Brazil. Defensive compactness is the basic concept of every team against the strong Brazilian players. In recent games, Brazil have not only shown that they are extremely goal-threatening, but also that they allow their opponents few scoring opportunities.

With the exception of the 4-1 win over Canada, which was far too blue-eyed at times, the Croats have hardly been explosive offensively in the tournament so far. In the other three games, the Croats scored just a single goal. It’s therefore hard to imagine Croatia rediscovering its attacking power against Brazil, of all teams.

We therefore expect a game with few goals and opt for an “Under 2.5”.

Croatia – Brazil Prediction

Croatia showed good nerves in the tournament so far, especially against Belgium and Japan, and it’s clear that this team can handle pressure. Against Brazil, however, the pressure will be too much for the team that caused such a sensation in 2018.

Brazil will pin Croatia in from the start in their own half, but not with a lot of possession, but in the form of pressing, pressure and momentum. Sooner or later, that will be too much for the Croats. They won’t let themselves slip like the South Koreans did in the round of 16, but anything other than a Brazilian victory would be a huge surprise…

Croatia – Brazil Correct Score Bet

As we already described in our Over Under tip, we do not expect Croatia to score against Brazil. On the other hand, the Croatian defense is clearly stronger than that of the South Koreans.

Brazil has such high quality offensively that they will be able to celebrate goals against Croatia again. Also, Neymar’s return brings back a central aspect to the Brazilian offense, which can be the decisive factor when it comes to decision-making in the final third.

Our Croatia Brazil result tip is 2-0 and thus Brazil, the World Cup favorites, will advance to the quarterfinals.

Argentina Flag

In the second quarterfinal of the 2022 World Cup, the Netherlands will face Argentina. This will be the first time in the current World Cup that there will be a rematch of a World Cup final, namely the one from 1978.

We provide you with a detailed preview of the match, as well as the best odds and predictions, and offer you our Netherlands – Argentina betting picks

The road to the quarterfinals

The Netherlands won Group A ahead of Senegal, Ecuador and Qatar with seven points. However, the Dutch did not really shine in any of their group games. On the other hand, they performed well against the USA in the round of 16. The U.S. boys created their opportunities but the Netherlands struck at the right times and won 3:1.

Argentina, however, have only been convincing to a limited extent so far in the tournament. Right at the start, they suffered an almost historic defeat against Saudi Arabia. After that, however, they were able to hold their own against Mexico and Poland and win Group C. In the round of 16, they faced Australia, and the bottom line was a 2-1 victory. Argentina was too inefficient on the counterattack and didn’t get the ball into the net, which is why the game was a nail-biter right to the end.

The match will take place on Friday, December 9 at 10 pm Qatar time at the Lusail Iconic Stadium in Lusail.

Netherlands World Cup Quarterfinals Preview

The Netherlands have not yet been able to really convince at the tournament so far. In the group stage, they struggled to overcome Senegal, played weakly in the 1-1 draw against Ecuador and finally defeated Qatar without a shine.

In the round of 16, the Dutch scored three goals for the first time, but the opponent from the United States had great opportunities to even turn the game, although “Oranje” was already 2-0 ahead at the break after goals from Memphis Depay and Daley Blind.

Denzel Dumfries scored the decisive 3:1 five minutes after Haji Wright’s USA goal, which earned him a kiss from his coach Louis van Gaal at the press conference.

Overlyzer Live Trends Netherlands vs. USA
The Netherlands were not the better team against the USA for long stretches, but they were the more effective team!

The way the Netherlands performed against the USA was not “Dutch” at all. Normally the country is known for fast, dynamic attacking soccer, but this time they took an early lead and then surrendered the initiative to the USA. In the end, they had little possession and low passing accuracy, which also came down to directness in transition play.

So the Netherlands didn’t look for control, but much more for quick, direct counterattacks to exploit the USA’s defensive weaknesses. This was quite a risky concept, which was also shown by the Expected Goals statistic: In the end, the score was 1.57 : 2.25 against the Dutch.

The approach against Argentina will probably be similar, but of course the attacking power of the Albiceleste is greater than that of the USA. Still, the plan could be promising because Argentina doesn’t always move back fast enough when they lose the ball in high zones. So we will see an uncharacteristically “inactive” Dutch team against Argentina as well.

However, the Netherlands’ success proves them right: they have been unbeaten in regular time for 18 World Cup games now!

Argentina World Cup Quarterfinals Preview

Argentina quickly bounced back from a 2-1 loss to Saudi Arabia on the first matchday of the group stage and remained flawless thereafter. Three wins from their last three games speak for themselves, and they put in a very strong performance against the Poles in particular.

However, the team around its superstar Lionel Messi has still not shown itself to be playing like truly world champions. This is mainly due to the lack of efficiency in the offensive, which was particularly visible in the final phase of the round of 16 match against Australia.

The “Gauchos” could have added a goal or two in stoppage time, but repeatedly failed to do so. As a result, even the blatant underdogs from Australia still had chances to turn the game around completely.

Overlyzer Live Trends Argentina vs. Australia
Argentina was the better team against Australia , but failed to decide the game  early…

Argentina was the better team against Australia , but failed to decide the game  early…

The Netherlands will be the first real test for Argentina. Lionel Scaloni’s team has not yet had to play against a top team in the World Cup so far. Lionel Messi’s unpredictability is a big plus for the two-time world champions.

However, they could face a number of problems against the Netherlands in terms of physicality. The average height difference per player in the expected lineups gives an advantage of over eight centimeters in favor of the Dutch (185.6cm vs. 177.4cm). This means that the Netherlands will probably also have a not inconsiderable advantage when it comes to set pieces, while Argentina will benefit from the technical aspect.

The teams are therefore on an even footing and an exciting revival of the 1978 World Cup final should be on the cards!

Papu Gomez had to be substituted against Australia due to injury, but he should be able to play against the Netherlands. Ángel di María, on the other hand, could continue to be absent for his team manager Lionel Scaloni.

In favor of Netherlands:

+ Impressive streak of 18 consecutive World Cup games without defeat in regular time
+ Efficiency in the offensive
+ They can approach the game destructively and let Argentina take the initiative
+ Against the USA, the width of the squad also showed its class
+ No injuries

In favor of Argentina:

+ Technical advantages compared to the Netherlands
+ With Lionel Messi they have a player who is good for the “special” moments
+ Clearly better xG values than the Netherlands in the tournament so far
+ The central midfield showed improvement in recent games

The last duel

The Netherlands and Argentina have met a total of nine times. In fact, the upcoming quarterfinal will be the sixth time these two countries have met in a World Cup. Argentina have never beaten the Netherlands after 90 minutes!

However, the Argentines won the last encounter on their way to the World Cup final after a penalty shootout. In 2014, the score was 0-0 after 120 minutes in the semifinals of the World Cup in Brazil, and it was only after that that Argentina secured its place in the final: all the Argentines scored, but on the Netherlands’ side Vlaar and Sneijder missed their penalties. Argentina then lost the final to Germany after extra time.

The Netherlands’ most bitter defeat, however, came in 1978, when Argentina, then led by the brilliant Mario Kempes, prevailed in the World Cup final on home soil. Shortly before the end of regulation time, Dutchman Rob Rensenbrink hit the bar at 1-1. In extra time, however, two goals from the Argentines clinched the title in front of their own crowd.

At the 1978 World Cup final, the atmosphere in Buenos Aires was magnificent!

Potential opponents for the semifinals

The winner of the duel between the Netherlands and Argentina will meet the winner of the quarterfinal match between Croatia and Brazil in the semifinals.

Netherlands – Argentina Over Under Prediction

The Netherlands won 3-1 against the USA, the Argentines 2-1 against Australia. For the Dutch, it was even the first “Over 2.5” in the tournament.

In the direct duel in the quarterfinals of the World Cup, however, things will look different. Both teams will be anxious not to make any mistakes and it is hardly to be expected that an open battle will develop here. We think that the two teams will try to keep each other as far away from their own goal as possible.

Our bet here is therefore an “Under 2.5”, i.e. a maximum of two goals scored in the match.

Netherlands – Argentina Prediction

When the Netherlands met Argentina in major events, it was usually a very close affair! Three of the five World Cup matches between these two teams ended in a draw, and two of those three games went into extra time because they were already knockout games.

A draw – and thus extra time – is a very likely option this time as well. It is to be expected that neither of the two teams will build up permanent pressure, but that the teams will rather cancel each other out.

Therefore, we bet on the third overtime between these two teams in the context of a World Cup. And then, as we all know, everything is up for grabs and the team with the stronger nerves will win the match – a perfect situation for a live bet!

Portugal World Cup 2022 Preview

Portugal performed well at the start of the tournament and there are some promising aspects to the European “Selecao”, but Fernando Santos’ team also has its problems.

Most impressive so far have been the performances of Bruno Fernandes, who has traditionally played very strongly in the Portuguese team, while at Manchester United he is often criticized for his fluctuating performances.

Curiously, the team’s biggest star has been its weakest player so far. Cristiano Ronaldo has barely been able to make an impact so far in this World Cup and is already receiving plenty of criticism from the media and fans in his native Portugal. The soon-to-be 38-year-old superstar is currently completely lacking the punch of his old days.

The 2-1 loss to South Korea on the final day of Group G also brought criticism for the Portuguese, who were however fielding a reserve team.

Overlyzer Live Trends South Korea Portugal
Against South Korea, Portugal could hardly establish dominance…

Portugal will have to do without several players in the round of 16 against Switzerland. The most painful is the absence of Nuno Mendes, who will be out for the entire tournament due to a muscle injury. Danilo Pereira, a fellow PSG player, is out due to a fractured rib. Also questionable is Porto’s Otávio, who currently has muscle problems as well.

Against Switzerland, it is not unlikely that team boss Fernando Santos will start with his former star Cristiano Ronaldo on the bench and use him as a joker. Ronaldo has brought little spirit to the Portuguese game from the start.

Switzerland World Cup 2022 Preview

Switzerland’s team manager Murat Yakin recently attracted attention in an interview when he declared that the current Swiss national team is probably the best of all time. However, the coach could well be right, because Switzerland have so far presented themselves as extremely stable.

Against Serbia, the Swiss were the better and, above all, clearly more mature team. The 3-2 victory was highly deserved and in the end also relatively impressive, because the Swiss showed great confidence in their game, while the Serbians were already running out of steam.

Serbia Switzerland Overlyzer Live Trends
Switzerland presented itself against Serbia as a fitter, technically better, but above all more intelligent team!

This cleverness could also be the key to success for the Swiss in their difficult round of 16 match against Portugal. It is not surprising that the Swiss are considered to have a good chance of keeping up in this match as well. After all, the Swiss have always been the best-performing German-speaking country at the last three major events.

Team boss Yakin hopes to be able to call on the two key defensive players Yann Sommer and Nico Elvedi again in the round of 16. Both were absent against Serbia due to colds.

+ Secure defense that allows few clear scoring opportunities from their opponents

The last duel

Portugal and Switzerland last met in the UEFA Nations League. Both matches took place in June this year.

In Portugal, the Portuguese side prevailed 4-0, with Cristiano Ronaldo scoring a brace and William Carvalho and Joao Cancelo, who has also been strong in the World Cup so far, each adding a goal.

In the second leg in Geneva, however, Switzerland won 1-0 with a header from Haris Seferovic after just one minute, with the Portuguese squad rotating heavily, especially in attack and central midfield, leaving Bernardo Silva and Diogo Jota, for example, only on the bench. Cristiano Ronaldo and Joao Felix were not even in Portugal’s squad.

Potential opponents for the quarterfinals

The winner of the duel between Portugal and Switzerland will meet the winner of the round of 16 match between Morocco and Spain in the quarterfinals.

Portugal – Switzerland Over Under Prediction

Both teams have had “over” and “under” games in the World Cup so far. The Swiss only proved that their offense is in good shape in their last game against Serbia, partly due to the return of Xherdan Shaqiri, but also because Serbia allowed too much.

The Portuguese also allowed too many scoring opportunities from their opponents in their previous matches, which is why they will be a bit more cautious against the clever Swiss.

Therefore, but also due to the nature of the knockout phase at a major event, we assume that no more than two goals will be scored in regular time and therefore bet on an “Under 2.5”.

Overlyzer Tip

Portugal – Switzerland UNDER 2,5 goals ➜ best odds 1.75 @ Bet365

Overlyzer Over/Under Betting Pick Portugal vs. Switzerland

Portugal – Switzerland Prediction

Portugal and Switzerland could be a game of equal strength, despite the individual advantages for the Portuguese.

The Swiss already showed against Brazil that they can hold their own against much stronger opponents. In this case only defensively, but nevertheless quite impressively. Against Serbia, the Swiss showed that they can be clearly superior against teams ranking in the “third tier”.

The Swiss are therefore quite capable of putting up quite a fight against Portugal. Moreover, the physical condition of the Swiss team is also very convincing. Therefore, we bet that the round of 16 duel between Portugal and Switzerland will go into overtime.

Both teams have strong offensive lines, although the Portuguese are naturally more versatile and have a broader range of players. The only thing that Portugal always lacked was efficiency, partly because Cristiano Ronaldo is not in the shape that was hoped for before the tournament.

However, the Swiss are also extremely secure in defense and with Sommer and Elvedi, two important players could return who were absent due to illness recently.

Our Portugal Switzerland result tip is a 1-1 and thus extra time, in which we give the Swiss a good chance of advancing to the quarterfinals due to their great stamina, which could already be seen in the match against Serbia.

Spain experienced a bizarre group stage: In the first game, Costa Rica was blown away 7-0 and in the second game, they drew 1-1 with Germany. In the last match, Spain surprisingly lost 2-1 to Japan and thus only advanced to the round of 16 in second place.

The match will take place on December 5 at 6 p.m. Qatar time at the Education City Stadium in al-Rayyan.

Morocco World Cup 2022 Preview

Morocco already showed in the match against Croatia at the start of the group stage that they are a force to be reckoned with. The team looked very stable from the start and is obviously equipped with some top-class players.

The Moroccans’ right side in particular has been very strong so far. No wonder – right-back Achraf Hakimi is one of the world’s best in his position, and in front of him plays Hakim Ziyech, another player with great technical ability. Other players, such as left-back Noussair Mazraoui from Bayern Munich and the confident center-back Romain Saiss, who is also captain of the team, have also played an impressive World Cup so far.

Overlyzer Live Trends Canada Morocco
Thanks to a strong start, Morocco managed to beat Canada in their last group game

They conceded their first goal of the tournament against Canada. However, this was also due to the fact that after the bright start and the goals of Hakim Ziyech and Youssef En-Nesyri, they became a bit lazy and let the Canadians have the ball.

Already in the first two games, Morocco had just over a third of ball possession and in the round of 16 against Spain, that difference will be much more glaring. The Spaniards are known for building up a lot of possession and Morocco will focus almost exclusively on playing against the ball and looking for counterattacks. This should also be the only way for the North Africans to pull off another sensation.

Spain World Cup 2022 Preview

After the first match against Costa Rica, Spain already looked like a hot favorite for the World Cup title. However, the glory faded relatively quickly and the “Furia Roja” only picked up one point from the remaining two games.

They were largely the better team against Germany, but failed to stay cool enough on the attack. Again and again, the Spaniards overcomplicated things and ended up with a 1-1 draw. The same thing happened in the game against Japan, where the Spaniards had almost 84% possession but created far too few chances.

Overlyzer Live Trends Japan Spain
Although Spain was in possession of the ball for almost the entire match, they lost the last group match against Japan…

However, team boss Luis Enrique had also spared some players and put a number of reserve players into the first eleven. There were also some nasty rumors that the Spaniards did not play hard for an equalizer in the final stages of the match, but accepted defeat in order to face Morocco rather than Croatia in the round of 16. However, our graphs of the match prove the opposite and the Spaniards’ efforts to score a goal were highest in the last minutes of the match against Japan.

Against Morocco, however, Luis Enrique can fall back on his best team. However, a real goal scoring spree is not to be expected due to the inefficiency of the Spaniards in the last two games…

Team comparison

In favor of Morocco:

+ Top-notch right side with Hakimi and Ziyech
+ Solid central defense that allows few opposing chances
+ Great efficiency in the attack
+ Morocco have to work mainly against the ball, which works more in the team’s favor
+ The psychological factor of winning the group

In favor of Spain:

+ Excellent ball control and pass stability
+ Long periods of possession that help control the game
+ Significant individual advantages, especially in the center of midfield
+ High level of tournament experience

The last duel

Morocco and Spain already met at the 2018 World Cup in Russia – back then in the group stage.

Even then, Morocco pushed Spain to the brink of defeat: In the first half, Khalid Boutaib scored for the Moroccans and Isco for Spain. It was not until the 81st minute that Morocco managed to make it even 2-1 through Youssef En-Nesyri, who was Morocco´s solo striker that time as well. Spain only equalized in stoppage time through substitute Iago Aspas. It was the only point gained by the Moroccans in this World Cup.

Possible opponents in the quarterfinals

The winner of the duel between Morocco and Spain will meet the winner of the round of 16 match between Portugal and Switzerland in the quarterfinals.

Morocco – Spain Over Under Prediction

The course of the match is quite easy to predict if you take a closer look at the previous matches of these two teams: Morocco will stand deep and let the Spaniards run the game, while the Spaniards will circulate the ball in the opponent’s half and build up about 80% possession.

However, with the exception of the game against Costa Rica, Spain always had problems creating clear scoring opportunities. For the most part, the Iberians did not play well enough on the offensive. Morocco, meanwhile, relies on counterattacks and generally creates few clear-cut scoring opportunities.

Therefore, we expect a game with few goals and opt for a bet on “Under 2.5”, i.e. a maximum of two goals scored in the game.

Morocco – Spain Prediction

It’s possible that the two games in a row without a win will even be a small advantage for Spain. The players will already have plenty of pressure from their coach Luis Enrique and the time for sloppiness in the offense must come to an end for the 2010 world champions by now at the latest.

Morocco presented themselves strongly in the group stage, but they had to deal with teams that had major problems of their own – first and foremost the disappointing Belgians, who they managed to outplay in the closing stages.

The individual class of the Spaniards should be enough to put Morocco under permanent pressure and also force one or two mistakes again. Therefore, we expect a narrow victory for the Spaniards in this match.

Morocco – Spain Correct Score Bet

The Moroccans’ very defensive approach will probably not make it easy for the Spanish to create clear scoring opportunities for a long time. At the same time, Spain’s central midfield is good enough to prevent Moroccan counterattacks.

We bet that sooner or later Spain will be able to score a crucial goal to advance, thanks to the high quality in the attack.
