Croatia World Cup 2022 Preview

Croatia had to suffer in their last group match against Belgium. The duel with the favourites in Group F was a real test of nerves for the Croats, also because Belgium’s star striker Romelu Lukaku missed numerous opportunities. Belgium had to go home after the goalless draw and Croatia advanced to the round of the last 16 in second place.

Croatia had already played 0-0 against eventual group winners Morocco and then defeated Canada 4-1. The Croatians were strong at times, but then again had many empty runs in their game.

Poland World Cup 2022 Preview

Poland’s only goal in the group stage came against Saudi Arabia. In addition to the 2-0 win against the underdog, coach Czeslaw Michniewicz’s team drew 0-0 with Mexico and lost 2-0 to Argentina.

Polish fans are pinning their hopes on two players. Goalkeeper Wojciech Szczęsny is playing a very strong tournament and proved to be a very reliable keeper. The goalkeeper has been in brilliant form and made the most saves (19) in the group phase.

The other big hope is star striker Robert Lewandowski, who is always capable of scoring. However, the Poles have the serious problem that the midfield is currently not playing at a very good level and hardly offers any support to the attacker.

Robert Lewandowski tries a lot, but seems very disconnected from the other parts of his team, and hardly had any scoring opportunities against Argentina, a team of comparable quality to France.

Senegal World Cup 2022 Preview

The 2022 Africa Cup winners were considered to be contenders for a place in the last 16 before the tournament, and in the end they did so. However, due to the absence of Sadio Mané, Senegal was not as convincing as one would have expected before the World Cup.

In the group stage, the team was able to get the necessary points, but the Senegalese did not really play well. The 2-0 defeat against the Netherlands was unfortunate, but expected. Australia’s promotion is probably the biggest sensation in the tournament so far. The “Socceroos” already looked like cannon fodder after the 4-1 loss to France. But the team fought its way back and in the end even finished the group in second place with the same number of points as the French.

Serbia World Cup 2022 Preview

Serbia did not have a single goal scoring opportunity against Brazil in the first game, but ended up being very unlucky when drawing 3-3 against Cameroon. A goal by Cameroon should not have counted because of offside.

This means that the Serbs are doomed to win in their last match against Switzerland. A victory would definitely see the Serbs overtake Switzerland, which would then be enough for promotion if Cameroon fail to win against Brazil. With a win by one goal margin and a draw in the parallel match, there would be some calculating and a tight situation is also possible, as was already seen in the Group C matches on Wednesday.

But the bottom line is that the Serbs have to look after themselves. They can almost certainly rely on the Brazilians for support, but a win of their own against Switzerland is enough work.

The Swiss have been performing strongly in the tournament so far. The 1-0 win over Cameroon was largely a win based on hard work, but they held up well against the heavy favorites from Brazil and the five-time world champions struggled to get through.
